U.S. Dep. Agric., Div. Entomol. Bull. (old series)
Published Taxon Remarks:
Ferris (1951) recorded lice that he assigned to H. hesperomydis from South America, Turkestan, and the People’s Republic of China. However, Kim (1965) revised the “H. hesperomydis complex” and included only North American specimens as true H. hesperomydis. [ex. Durden, L. A., Musser, G. G. 1994. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 218: 1-90]. Lectotype male designated by Johnson (1959), syntype female, Ames, Iowa, from white-footed mouse (Hesperomys leucopus), H. O. 1885, deposited in the National Museum of Natural History Collection, Washington, D.C. [ex. Kim, K. C., Pratt, H. D., Stojanovich, C. J. 1986. The Sucking Lice of North America, p. 241: Pennsylvania State University]
Taxon Citation Remarks:
Citation information points to the most recent interpretation of the taxon name (not the original, which is absent from the sucking louse checklist).
