Kim et al. (1986) discussed usage of the name S. capillatus in relation to that of Haematopinus eurysternus Denny. [ex. Durden, L. A., Musser, G. G. 1994. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 218: 1-90]. Described from a male specimen taken off a cow in 1895 in Leipzig, Germany. The type, which is supposed to be in the Zoological Museum at Berlin, has not been located (Kim and Weisser 1974). S. capillatus Enderlein is actually a junior synonym for this species but conserved along with Haemtopinus eurysternus Denny (Kim and Weisser 1973, 1974). [ex. Kim, K. C., Pratt, H. D., Stojanovich, C. J. 1986. The Sucking Lice of North America, p. 241: Pennsylvania State University]
