Contributions toward a monograph of the sucking lice, Part VII, Stanford Univ. Publ. Univ. Ser., Biol. Sci.
Published Taxon Remarks:
Kuhn and Ludwig (1967) recognized five subspecies of this louse with P. (N.) pictus pictus and P. (N.) pictus ethiopicus both parasitizing C. guereza; P. (N.) pictus fastigatus and P. (N.) pictus gambiensis parasitizing different subspecies of P. badius; and P. (N.) pictus polykomi parasitizing C. polykomos and C. satanas. Ledger (1980) suggested that each of these subspecies could be elevated to species rank. [ex. Durden, L. A., Musser, G. G. 1994. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 218: 1-90]
Taxon Citation Remarks:
Citation information points to the most recent interpretation of the taxon name (not the original, which is absent from the sucking louse checklist).
