Abstract: | The purpose of this technical guide is to provide guidance on safe, effective and efficient procedures for controlling outbreaks of louse-borne disease, such as epidemic louse-borne typhus (Rickettsia prowazekii), epidemic relapsing fever (Borrelia recurrentis), and trench fever (Bartonella quintana), in enemy prisoners of war and other internment/resettlement camps under control of the Department of Defense (DoD). Louse-borne disease control in the absence of mass delousing with power equipment or the topical application of pesticide dusts must be accomplished through the joint efforts of a variety of DoD non-medical and medical assets to control both body lice and the pathogens they transmit. |
